​Kathy Hughes is a New Orleans artist who has been working in Encaustics for the past 20 years. She has a B.A. in ceramic sculpture from Tulane University and an M.Ed in Art Education from William Carey University. She recently retired from the Public School System as an Art Talent Educator.
"My work as an artist has always been influenced by observations of the world around me. Lines, shapes and patterns in my immediate environment become personal symbols which repeat themselves over time. A constant theme for me has been adding structure and order to what appears random and chaotic. Encaustic allows me to add collage, oil paint, ink and other media to a piece as well as give a translucency through layering and scraping back."
